Emergency Lanyard: Be prepared quickly

One of my New Years resolutions last year was to make like a Boy Scout and “Be Prepared,” in case of emergency! And I’ve got to say, I think I did a pretty good job!

I made the BEST (at least, what I think are the best) 72 hour Emergency Kits, one for each member of our family.

Find step by step instructions for these HERE!

Then I made small Emergency Kits for our kids backpacks and I must say, they’ve come in handy more than once, making them one of the BEST DECISIONS I’ve ever made… and why yes, I’ll pat myself on the back. Kidding… Kidding… sort of! Plus, they give me peace of mind. If there’s an Emergency while my kids are at school, they will have what they need.

You can read about these handy little babies HERE!

Our food storage is also now in order and I’ve made sure to store enough water for us and our animals.

My kids have private Instagram accounts and emails so that I can preserve/send memories, pictures and video’s to them and then access those memories in case our photo books are destroyed or hard drives fail.

Why yes Grasshopper, I’ve thought of it all… or did I?

On Christmas Day my Mother in Law presented us with our family gift.

In years past it’s always been something practical and useful and sometimes it’s totally comical, like the 5 gallon paint bucket with an attachable toilette seat, garbage bags and kitty littler in case we need to “Go” on the go! Laughable… but GENIUS!

Well, this time it was no different and I am in awe of the time and preparations!

It’s an Emergency Lanyrad.

It makes leaving your home in case of an emergency quick and easy! Sure, it doesn’t have everything, but it has enough!

I remember my sister in law telling us a story about a friend who’s family were affected by a Natural Disaster. She said that the military evoked Martial Law and anything not on your person was taken to be distributed to those in need. I’m not sure how accurate the story is, so I don’t claim to know facts, but she said that these necklaces would have come in handy.

Each Emergency Lanyard Has:

  1. Lanyard… Duh
  2. Whistle/compass/flashlight combo
  3. Flint and Steel
  4. A Fork/Spoon/Knife… Amazing!
  5. A Pocket Knife
  6. A Flash Drive
  7. A lighter holder filled with chapstick, one dollar bills, and water proof matches
  8. Hand Sanitizer

She’s attached them all onto the lanyard with this really cool Nite Ize key rack locker, complete with S-Biner’s.

Also, she used hair ties to attach items that didn’t have a loop or chain to attach it to the Lanyard, which again is genius! Great job Mama!

I’ve also added a few items to the Lanyard that I’d like to have with me

  1. Life Straw! These are amazing. You can stick them into water, anywhere, and they will filter in for you because water is the most important thing in an Emergency!
  2. Germstar Noro – my favorite Hand Sanitizer that combats the stomach virus – Gel does not. Read more about that HERE
  3. Emergency Blanket

I’ll include the links to all items below! For me, Emergency Preparedness is so important because family is EVERYTHING and my kids and husband are EVERYTHING! So, If something happens and I’m not prepared, I won’t forgive myself. But if something does happen and I am prepared… well then… Grin.

My Mother in law is AMAZING for giving one of these to each of our family members! I hope it helps you, your family and your peace of mind as well.
