Monday Affirmations

Have any of you ever counted your kids down? Like, “You have five seconds to stop destroying your Brother’s Lego tower,” or “You have ten seconds to put your sisters barbie doll head back on it’s body.”

And what usually happens? Usually, not always, they do it! It’s funny how effective counting can be.

Lately I’ve been tuning into Mel Robbins. If you haven’t heard of her, look her up! She’s got video’s on Youtube as well as other materials you can find all over the web and all of it is great!

She’s very motivational and smart, but what I like most about her is that she backs up everything she teaches with science!

I won’t dive into too much, but one thing I’ll tell you about is the 5 second rule! I love this rule and it has been a game changer for me!

The 5 second rule is basically this: When you think of something you should be doing to further your success, health, enrich your life or help others, you should count to five. When you hit five, you get up and do it NO MATTER WHAT!

It’s so easy to talk ourselves out of doing things that take some effort. “I’m so tired, I’ll workout later tonight,” we say as we hit the snooze. “I should write up a blog post, but I can postpone it until tomorrow. No big deal,” we think. “That presentation is due in a week, I should start my research, but I have an entire week,” we contemplate as we continue our Netflix binge.

Life is full of opportunity and so much possibility. If we could see how much we are capable of accomplishing, I think we’d be completely dumbfounded and blown away!

However, it’s up to US to take those steps and to keep taking them until those steps forward. Sometimes we might slip, but if we keep going we CAN’T FAIL!

Mel talks about this as she talks about the five second rule. We have to take action and, sometimes, counting ourselves down is a great way to start moving in the right direction.

What goals do you have this week? Have you written them down and have you put a plan in action to achieve them?

And, like all of us, you will probably have moments where you “don’t feel like it right now,” or “you’re just to overwhelmed and exhausted.”

Don’t be afraid to take those breaks that you need because, heaven knows, we all need a break now and then!

I love focusing on Monday Affirmations at the beginning of the every week to help keep me on track! Staying on track isn’t about hitting the cruise control, because it’s about maintenance, chasing the oil, rotating the tires, keeping the engine clean, vacuuming the fishy crackers out from under the seats and driving on! It’s stops, climbs, wrong ways, directions changes and finding your way with a paper map!

Take that break, count yourself down and then press that pedal down! You’ve got this!!!! And I’m here to cheer you on.
