RESOLUTIONS: HOW TO SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVE THEM.
Why do we make New Year’s Resolutions? Well, for me, the new year feels like a fresh start, almost like I’ve been cleansed of the last year and it’s my chance to start over.
Now, I’m fully aware that this is all in my head, but that’s okay with me. I believe and have seen proof that our thoughts our powerful things, so why not embrace that and use that “new beginning” to the fullest.
Before I jump into making my New Years Resolutions this year, and before you do as well, I’d like to share a few more things I’ve learned.
RESOLUTIONS SHOULD NOT BE TOO BROAD
When we make our resolutions too broad and the goal vague, how will we know we’ve reached it.
Example of a broad goal: “I’m going to be healthier this year.”
Example of a specific resolutions: “I’m going to exercise at least 4 times a week for 45 minutes this year.”
See what I mean? Having a specific goal trained our brain to visualize it and then pursue it.
One way I like to set very specific goals is to create a vision board, and more than one type for that matter.
I’ve seen some amazing things happen in my life because of vision boards.
A vision board is basically a tool that you create to help you visualize and see your goals. Make sure to put it somewhere you will see it often and make the pictures and phrases specific and something that makes you FEEL something.
The types of vision boards I have are…
1. A Pinterest vision board. You can read about how I created my Pinterest vision board HERE. I LOVE my Pinterest Vision board. It’s easy to access, I can add to it all the time and it’s portable, that way I can open it up and glance at it anytime, anywhere.
2. A desktop Vision Board. So, I create a new vision board for my desktop every 6 months or so. I do this by simply finding quotes and pictures which motivate me and represent my goals, go to canva.com, choose a template and create a vision board. I then download a JPG file, save it to my photo’s and then use it as my desktop wallpaper. That way, every time I hop on my computer, which is A LOT for business and other, I see my goals thus being able to visualize!
3. A typical cut and paste vision board. This is created by cutting and pasting magazine clippings or even printing off pictures and gluing or pinning them to a board. I like this board and have used it many times. Also, it’s framed which is a MUST with vision boards. Something about framing them helps our brain to focus on what’s inside, which is cool right?
Vision boards are a great tool in helping with resolutions.
KEEP RESOLUTIONS ACHIEVABLE AND NOT TO “OUT THERE.”
One of the biggest mistakes we make is when we resolve to completely change our lives in astronomical ways! Sure, these can be achieved and, sometimes, they are. However, we are more likely to stick with it when our goals don’t seem like a lifetime away. After all, “By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.”
“Slow and steady wins the race.”
WRITE IT DOWN.
Make it a point to write down your resolutions every day. Keep a journal of them and make sure to include your successes. If you have a few setbacks, that’s ok. Remember, we either win or we learn, there is no such thing as failure.
HAVE A STRONG WHY.
When we have a strong “WHY,” we are more likely to achieve our resolutions and goals. For me, I want to be healthy so that I can keep up with my children, live the active lifestyle I love, achieve really big dreams and like the way I look in a swimsuit. Those are my “whys” for why I stick with my goals.
REWARD YOURSELF ALONG THE WAY
If your goal is to lose weight or get fit, remember to reward yourself along the way. Say you have a goal of losing 30 pounds. Well, what is your reward for losing the first 5? A new bag? A night with the guys? A pedicure? A golf game on your favorite corse? A new pair of shoes? You decide a reward that works for you, but reward yourself. After all, you are doing it and achieving those goals.
To help you in your New Year, I’ve created helpful lists for you. Feel free to pin them as you desire.
You can also go to my “Vision Board,” on Pinterest (Chelsey Stallings – Lemonade Brain) for inspiration or to use the pins I already have.
And if you’re looking for some great inspirational books, these are my FAVORITE. Seriously LIFE CHANGING. Note: I’m not paid to advertise these… I just want to pass on what has helped me.
Plus, don’t forget to believe in yourself and remember, the only thing standing in your way is YOU!
Also remember that I BELIEVE IN YOU. You have more potential than you can even imagine and I want to hear the great things you are doing! I want to hear when you break through those resolutions and achieve your goals!
Go Get Em and have a GREAT NEW YEAR and rest of your year!
